The Marco family has been producing wines in the Priorat region since the 15th century, with records indicating their presence in Porrera during that time, as noted in Catalonia’s first census of 1497.
Ramon Marco Abella, the final descendant of the family, was born in Porrera, Priorat. His father had to relocate to Barcelona at the close of the 19th century due to the devastation caused by phylloxera in the Priorat vineyards. He returned to Porrera in 1893.
Their grandson, David Marco, along with his wife, Olívia Bayés, established the winery in 2001. In homage to their grandfather, both David and Olívia, alongside their parents, honoured his legacy by incorporating their surnames into the winery’s name.
Loidana embodies the virtues of Marco Abella’s highest vineyard plots, showcasing the authenticity, typicality, and essence of the Priorat region. Derived from a woman’s name found in the Marco family’s medieval ages, it serves as the ideal introduction to the intricate world of Priorat wines.
Loidana is a versatile and lively wine suitable for any occasion. It presents aromas of red fruits, flowers, spices, and minerals, delivering a smooth, velvety, and refreshing palate.
