Bodegas Martín Códax was established in 1985, taking its name from the most famous Galician troubadour. His medieval poems, which are the oldest in the Galician-Portuguese language and still retain their original music, are preserved. In these verses, the troubadour sings of love and the sea along our coastline.
One of the standout features of the Martín Códax brand is how their vineyards embody their authentic cultural heritage. Albariño is the main grape of the Rías Baixas appellation and one of the most renowned in Galicia. The grape clusters and berries are small, weighing no more than 125 grams, which allows for early ripening. Albariño is a sweet and lingering grape, characterised by high levels of sugar and acidity, which lend the wines remarkable freshness. Traditionally cultivated using the “emparrado” system, Albariño has become one of the key symbols of Galicia.
Once the grapes are de-stemmed, they undergo a gentle pressing with a pneumatic press to extract the juice. The juice is then fermented in large stainless steel vats. After the initial fermentation, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation, which imparts a silky texture and reduces acidity in the final product.
On the palate, this Albarino is crisp and zesty, with flavours of tropical fruit, pineapple, and a subtle touch of minerality. This medium-bodied wine has a long, refreshing finish, making it an excellent choice as an aperitif.
