The Masi story begins in 1772 with the first harvest on the prestigious Vajo dei Masi vineyards, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Today, more than 200 years later, the company is still run by the Boscaini Family.
Back in the 19th century wine producer Paolo Boscaini unknowingly started a tradition of reserving wine from vintages that had a special family meaning, such as marriages and the births of children and grandkids. In the following century, starting in the 1920s, Guido was the one who actually established the custom: he had a tendency of storing reserve quantities of the greatest vintages, which allowed him to compare wines as they changed with time. The Boscaini family continues its history with love and care, and it is the source of the most significant and best collection of old Amarone wines.
The winemakers say that hummus-rich soils give the grapes a great personality. The grapes undergo a natural drying process during which they concentrate their aromas in the winter months. The resulting wine is elegant with incredibly soft tannins. The palate is absolutely majestic with strong flavours of marasca cherries and dark fruit. It is a very powerful wine, full of aromas of preserved cherries and plums.
Masi Mazzano Amarone della Valpolicella has a great ageing potential of up to 20 years. But we say you shouldn’t wait and open one this Christmas!
Food pairing suggestion: Wild boar stew with blueberries.
