Mezzacorona Castel Firmian Lagrein, Producer
Mezzacorona, one of Trentino-Alto Adige’s most respected cooperatives, has been crafting quality-driven wines since 1904. With its Castel Firmian line, the winery highlights native grape varieties and regional expression with a modern, approachable style. Known for its precision and sustainable viticulture, Mezzacorona expertly balances tradition and innovation. The Lagrein Rosato is part of this commitment – offering a fresh take on one of the region’s boldest red grapes.
Mezzacorona Castel Firmian Lagrein, Terroir & Winemaking
The Lagrein grapes are grown on the sunny slopes of the Adige Valley, where glacial soils and cool Alpine breezes help preserve the grape’s natural acidity and delicate aromatics. Lagrein is typically a robust red, but here it’s handled with finesse. The grapes undergo gentle pressing and brief skin contact, just enough to impart a vivid pink hue and a touch of structure. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness, and the wine is released young to showcase its vibrant character.
Mezzacorona Castel Firmian Lagrein,Tasting Notes
Mezzacorona’s Lagrein Rosato pours a striking coral-pink in the glass and opens with aromas of crushed raspberries, wild strawberries, and subtle rose petals. There’s a savoury herbal edge – think thyme or mountain scrub – that adds complexity. On the palate, it is juicy, crisp, and elegantly dry, with red berry notes balanced by citrus zest and a hint of spice. The finish is clean, refreshing, and surprisingly persistent, offering both charm and depth.
Food pairing suggestion: Beetroot falafel wraps.
