Nyetimber is one of the leading English Sparkling wine producers. Their vineyards have characteristics similar to the finest sparkling wine regions in the world. The greensand and chalk soils across the various sites in the south of England provide an ideal environment for Nyetimber vines to thrive. The local climate promotes the slow ripening of the grapes, enabling producers to achieve optimal ripeness and acidity, along with the complexity and finesse that distinguish their exquisite wines.
By using only estate-grown grapes from their own vineyards, Nyetimber ensures that only the finest fruit is selected for crafting their globally acclaimed wines. Head Winemaker Cherie Spriggs and her husband, Winemaker Brad Greatrix, meticulously assess each handpicked vineyard, determining the optimal harvest time and overseeing the gentle pressing and vinification process. This careful attention to detail enables them to make the most informed blending decisions the following spring.
All Nyetimber wines are crafted using the traditional method, with extended ageing periods to develop complexity and flavour, and generous post-disgorgement time before release.
Blanc de Blancs is crafted from a single vintage and aged for an extended period on lees. This pure expression of Chardonnay was the first style ever produced at Nyetimber, marking the beginning of their pioneering journey in the early 1990s.
Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2016 vintage:
2016 was reported as an exceptional vintage across England. Despite cool temperatures and fluctuating weather during the early growing season, the warm and dry conditions in August and September allowed the vines to produce high-quality fruit.
Harvesting of earlier-ripening varieties began in mid-September, with vineyards reporting ripe fruit flavours, high sugars, and a well-balanced acidity.
Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2016 – in the glass:
The wine displays a light gold hue with a fine, delicate mousse. Aromas of freshly squeezed lemon, pink apple, and white blossom are complemented by enticing notes of shortbread and crème fraîche. On the palate, fresh orchard and citrus fruits are joined by ripe greengage and a distinct flinty, mineral character. The finish is long, creamy, and complex, with a hint of salinity.
