Perelló Gordal Olives: Our Favourite Olives in a Tin
Quite simply, these are our favourite olives. Perelló Gordal Olives are big, plump and wonderfully juicy, with the sort of firm, fleshy bite that makes it very difficult to stop at one. Better still, they come in a handy little tin, ready for impromptu drinks, nibbles or a quick tapas spread.
Perelló has been specialising in Spanish olives since 1964, when Gaspar Perelló opened a stall in Barcelona’s famous Boqueria Market. Gordal olives are particularly prized as table olives for their generous size and meaty texture, and this version shows exactly why they have such a devoted following.
The olives are pitted and kept in a tangy brine with pieces of Spanish guindilla chilli. They’re crisp yet buttery, gently salty with a touch of natural sweetness, followed by just enough chilli heat to keep things interesting without overpowering the olive itself. Bold, juicy and ridiculously moreish.
Perelló Gordal Olives Food Pairing Suggestion:
Serve them straight from the tin alongside a cold glass of Fino Sherry, Cava or your favourite aperitif. They’re also brilliant with Manchego, jamón, chorizo and other tapas, or simply tipped into a bowl when friends arrive and you need something delicious on the table immediately.
