Planeta Extra Virgin Olive Oil Tradizionale is the oil we serve at all our Loki wine bars, and it has earned quite a following. Fresh, grassy and generously peppery, with a wonderfully smooth texture, it is the sort of oil that makes a plate of ripe tomatoes or a piece of crusty bread something to savour.

Produced at the Planeta family’s Capparrina estate near Menfi in Sicily, Tradizionale brings together three local olive varieties: Nocellara del Belice, Biancolilla and Cerasuola. The organically managed olive groves slope towards Porto Palo beach, surrounded by the native plants and wildlife of this Mediterranean coastal landscape.

The olives are harvested by hand from early October, a deliberate choice that favours flavour and aromatic intensity over a larger yield. They are taken straight to the family’s mill within the grove, where cold extraction preserves their fresh character. It is this attention from tree to mill that helps give the oil its distinctive green, herbaceous flavour.

Expect aromas of freshly cut grass, green tomato and artichoke, with hints of almond, basil and citrus. On the palate, the texture is rich and silky, balanced by a pleasant bitterness and a warming, peppery finish. Fruity and expressive, it brings plenty of flavour to the table without needing much fuss.

Planeta Olive Oil Serving Suggestion:

Start with fresh, crusty bread and a generous pour for dipping — our favourite way to appreciate its flavour. Alternatively, drizzle it over ripe tomatoes and mozzarella, grilled fish or roasted vegetables. It is also delicious stirred into vegetable soup just before serving, or spooned over warm butter beans with parsley and lemon.
