Paolo Bisol, the second generation of Ruggeri’s owners, has all the perseverance and drive to find the highest-quality grapes. The winery has established partnerships with more than a hundred local growers thanks to its long history in the region. These winemakers are often friends, neighbours or family members who run vineyards in the Valdobbiadene region and other municipalities, many of them being third-generation wine growers.

Ruggeri benefits from this close relationship with local producers, creating a strong sense of community, respect, and trust. This translates into a pruning strategy that shows the utmost care for the vine and a dedication to the prevention of disease. Harvesting is done by hand, and it is truly a heroic operation in these vineyards, located on such steep mountains.

The producers believe that with their light-minded approach, close ties to tradition and the considerable knowledge passed by many generations, they have the freedom to attempt new things. Ruggeri was the first winery in Valdobbiadene to start making wine out of very old vines. They were also the first to produce Extra Brut wines in their D.O.C.G. before it got approved by the appellation.

This wine has a flawless clarity, a light straw colour with greenish undertones, and a fine, rich mousse (or ‘perlage’ as Italians call it). The palate is full of floral undertones that are perfectly balanced with the grapes’ distinctive fruity notes to create an intense aroma reminiscent of a golden apple. It has a lengthy, fruity and fresh finish. The Glera grape provides more elegant and delicate notes, but some indigenous varietals such as Bianchetta, Perera, and Verdisio, are also added. These contribute to the richness and complexity to the final product.

Food pairing suggestion: Spot on for an aperitif but actually works really well for al fresco nibbles too.
