Duncan Savage, a former winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards, launched his own label in 2011 with the intention of making wines that are dependable, timeless, and refined.
Duncan is regarded as one of South Africa’s most promising young winemakers, and his wines keep receiving great praise from critics.
He creates sophisticated wines that accurately reflect their region: he is utilising fruit from old vines and high-altitude vineyards in the Western Cape. The idea is to “do as little as possible, as much as you can” in the winery.
This red is made from 100% Syrah grapes from two vineyards, one in Swartland and the other in Stellenbosch. The vines at both locations are trellised in Stellenbosch whereas those in the Swartland are typically dry-armed bush vines. Both locations are planted on decomposed granite soils. On the nose, there are distinct aromas of red and black fruit, rose, lilies, pelargonium, and white pepper. On the palate, it has a robust fruit expression, lively acidity, and extremely fine tannins.
Food pairing suggestion: Duck fillet with foie gras.
