In 2008, David Bowley established Vinteloper, embarking on a decade-long journey to procure grapes from various regions across South Australia and beyond, all the while utilising rented cellar facilities. Gradually, the brand solidified its position as one of the prominent forces in the nation’s wine scene. It was only in 2018 that Vinteloper eventually found a permanent residence in Cudlee Creek, marking a significant milestone. However, this joy was short-lived as the vineyard suffered extensive damage during the devastating bushfires of December 2019. Undeterred, the process of reconstruction commenced with vigour and hope, resulting in wines that continue to uphold their exceptional quality.
Undoubtedly, the affinity for Pinot Noir is a well-known aspect of Vinteloper’s identity. The mere sight of this bottle never fails to bring a smile to our faces – a delightful and captivating watercolour label, encased in a substantial glass bottle that exudes fun from every angle. Whether bestowed as a remarkable gift or indulged in as a personal treat, it stands as unparalleled.
In the glass – the timeless characteristics of Pinot Noir: the rich essence of dark cherry and the zestiness of orange rind, harmonising with the more intricate nuances of delicate spices and sun-dried herbs. These flavours create an illusion of a wine far more robust than its light red appearance would suggest. It deceives with its effortlessly approachable nature, gliding smoothly across the palate and culminating in a silky, refined finish. It’s no mystery why this wine has garnered acclaim as one of the most outstanding New World Pinot Noirs over the past decade.
Food pairing suggestion: Smoked duck and grilled peach salad.
Did you know? Vinteloper’s intricate labels are designed and hand-drawn by one of the founders and owner – Sharon Hong. Sharon has been creating these labels for over the decade and continues to sharpen her skills.
Awards:
