Today, Yarra Yering is a celebrated producer of outstanding wines, both red and white, in Yarra Valley, Australia. However, if it wasn’t for the vision of winemaking graduate Dr. Bailey Carrodus, Yarra Valley would still be only a sheep-farming region. After graduating from Oxford college he visited some well-respected wineries in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. It inspired him to produce his own wine. After years of research, he settled on Warramate Hills with its favourable aspect and soils and named the vineyards Yarra Yering where he planted his first vines in 1969. The first wines were released in 1974, and now with help of the winemaker Sarah Crowe the winery has the reputation of one of the leading in the Valley.
Yarra Yering Chardonnay comes from the original blocks planted in 1969, but the vineyards have been improving ever since.
Rains late into the 2019 growing season have helped with healthy yields and the yea finished hot and dry, ensuring the ripeness of the fruit.
This wine is ready for drinking but with careful storage (for up to 10 years) it will continue to build weight and develop flavours of ripe fruit and honey. Very fine tannin from the oak contact lingers on the finish, the aromas of sea shells, grapefruit and ginger brighten up the palate, and faint vanilla flavours tie it all together.
