Whispering Angel Rose: The Provence rosé everyone recognises
Whispering Angel is one of those rosés that needs very little introduction. Pale, polished and effortlessly drinkable, it has become a modern benchmark for Provence rosé, the bottle people reach for when they want something crisp, elegant and reliably lovely. It is fresh enough for a sunny afternoon, but smart enough for dinner, which is exactly why it has earned such a devoted following.
Produced by Château d’Esclans in the heart of Provence, northeast of St Tropez, Whispering Angel is part of the rosé story led by Sacha Lichine, who acquired the estate in 2006 and helped bring serious attention to premium Provence rosé. The estate describes itself as the home of Whispering Angel and a key name in the modern “Rosé Renaissance”.
This is classic Côtes de Provence in style: dry, pale and beautifully refreshing, with a graceful balance between delicate fruit and bright acidity. The blend is led by traditional Provençal varieties, commonly including Grenache, Rolle, Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre, giving the wine its softly fruity, lightly savoury and very moreish character.
In the glass, Whispering Angel is a delicate pale pink with aromas of redcurrant, wild strawberry, peach skin and a little citrus. The palate is dry and smooth, with juicy red berries, a touch of white peach, gentle herbal notes and a clean mineral freshness. It feels silky but not heavy, crisp but not sharp, finishing with a lovely lift that keeps you coming back for another sip.
Whispering Angel Wine Pairing Suggestion:
Whispering Angel is gorgeous with grilled prawns, crab linguine, salade Niçoise, lemony roast chicken or Mediterranean vegetables with whipped feta. It also works beautifully as an aperitif, especially with olives, charcuterie, burrata or a bowl of salted crisps in the garden.
