A lively Sicilian white with citrus, tropical fruit, and savoury mineral notes, showcasing the Mediterranean soul of Fiano.
Mandrarossa Fiano, Producer
Mandrarossa is the premium label of Cantine Settesoli, one of Sicily’s most dynamic cooperatives. Launched in the late 1990s, Mandrarossa was created to highlight single-varietal expressions from carefully selected vineyard parcels across the island. With a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and authenticity, Mandrarossa has earned an international reputation for producing wines that balance modern winemaking with Sicilian tradition. Their Fiano is a perfect example of this philosophy — a grape of Greek origin that has found a vibrant new identity in Sicily.
Mandrarossa Fiano, Terroir & Winemaking
The Fiano vines are planted in coastal vineyards in south-west Sicily, rooted in a mix of limestone and clay soils. These sites benefit from long hours of sunshine, moderated by cooling breezes from the Mediterranean Sea. Grapes are harvested during the cool night hours to protect their aromatic intensity and natural acidity. After gentle pressing, the juice ferments in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, ensuring bright, fresh fruit expression. A short period of lees ageing adds roundness and depth to the palate while keeping the wine crisp and clean.
Mandrarossa Fiano, Tasting Notes
Aromas of grapefruit, lime, and white peach rise from the glass, joined by hints of jasmine, basil and grapefruit, with notes of tomato leaf and fresh laurel leaves. The palate is medium-bodied, with juicy flavours of pear, melon, and tropical fruit. A streak of acidity provides balance, while saline minerality adds a savoury edge. The finish is long and refreshing, marked by citrus zest and a delicate nutty note. This is an expressive, versatile white that perfectly reflects Sicily’s coastal terroir.
Food pairing suggestion: Zucchini in riquagghio.
