Ad Hoc Cruel Mistress Pinot Noir: Cool-climate charm from Western Australia
Ad Hoc Cruel Mistress Pinot Noir is a beautifully expressive Australian red from Larry Cherubino, one of the most respected names in Western Australian wine. It has that lovely Pinot Noir mix of delicacy and quiet confidence: bright red fruit, floral lift, gentle spice and a silky texture that makes it very easy to enjoy.
The Ad Hoc range comes from Larry and Edwina Cherubino’s long-standing love of winemaking, with the label beginning to take shape in 2004. Larry Cherubino has earned major recognition in Australia, including the title of Winery of the Year from both James Halliday and Matt Skinner, and his wines are known for their thoughtful vineyard work and careful, low-intervention approach in the winery.
This Pinot Noir comes from selected vineyards in Great Southern, one of Western Australia’s standout cool-climate regions. The maritime influence and well-drained soils help give the wine its freshness, fragrance and elegant structure. It is a very good example of how graceful Australian Pinot Noir can be when grown in the right place.
In the glass, Cruel Mistress Pinot Noir opens with red berries, ripe cherry and raspberry, followed by violets and a soft touch of spice. There is a gentle earthiness too, adding depth without making the wine feel heavy. The palate is smooth and velvety, with bright acidity, fine tannins and a clean, polished finish. It is refined, juicy and quietly complex, but still very approachable.
Ad Hoc Cruel Mistress Pinot Noir Food Pairing Suggestion:
This is a lovely match for beetroot risotto with feta. The earthy sweetness of the beetroot works beautifully with the wine’s red berry fruit, while the feta adds a salty, creamy edge that brings out the Pinot’s freshness. It would also be excellent with roast duck, mushroom dishes, or grilled salmon with herbs.
