Post Scriptum wine

A brilliant Douro red with serious pedigree

Post Scriptum de Chryseia is one of those wines that instantly reminds you why the Douro Valley is so exciting for dry reds, not just Port. It is effectively the second wine of Chryseia, one of Portugal’s most highly regarded still red wines, and it brings plenty of that same depth, polish and aromatic charm in a more immediately drinkable style.

This is a joint project between the Symington family, one of the great names of the Douro, and Bruno Prats, formerly of Château Cos d’Estournel in Bordeaux. Prats & Symington was founded in 1999, combining deep local knowledge of the Douro with a more Bordeaux-influenced approach to structure, balance and finesse. The wines are made at Quinta de Roriz, one of the Douro’s historic estates, with fruit also linked to other prized Symington vineyards in the region.

What makes Post Scriptum so appealing is that it carries the character of Chryseia, but in a slightly more open and approachable way. It has that lovely Douro richness, but it is not heavy or overdone. Instead, it feels elegant, ripe, aromatic and beautifully put together, with enough freshness and structure to keep everything in balance.

In the glass, expect generous blackberry and blueberry fruit, lifted by violet notes, warm spice and a little savoury depth. It is fairly full-bodied, with smooth but present tannins, a ripe dark-fruited core and a long, polished finish. There is plenty of power here, but it is the balance that really makes it sing: ripe fruit, freshness, spice and a lovely sense of control.

Post Scriptum de Chryseia Food Pairing Suggestion:

This is a brilliant match for a sausage casserole, especially one with herbs, tomato, garlic and a little smoky paprika. It would also be lovely with slow-cooked lamb, roast pork, beef stew, grilled mushrooms or a rich lentil and aubergine dish.

About Post Scriptum de Chryseia:

  • Post Scriptum is the partner wine, or second wine, of Chryseia.
  • It comes from Prats & Symington, the Douro project founded by the Symington family and Bruno Prats.
  • The style is ripe, aromatic and structured, but designed to be approachable earlier than Chryseia.
  • A great choice for fans of polished, full-bodied reds with dark fruit, spice and freshness.
