Touriga Nacional

Touriga Nacional is often considered the greatest grape of the Douro. It is a very small berry and has a thick skin which lends the wines enormous colour and tannin but also wonderful aromatic and flavour intensity. Although much valued as a component of Port wine, the grape is also used for some of the best still wines in Portugal, either as a stand-alone grape, or as part of a blend.
Wines produced from this grape tend to show very ripe blackcurrant, raspberry and violet notes, and often hints of baking spices. Typically the wines are full-bodied and good examples can age and improve over time.
