The Diamantakis winery, established in 2007 by Diamantakis family members Ioannis, Michalis, and Zacharias, is a modern, modern, forward-thinking wine producer in Crete. Zacharias, who studied oenology, is involved in winemaking and wine marketing, whilst Michalis and Ioannis are in charge of the winery’s farms and are third-generation vine farmers with extensive viticulture knowledge.
The estate is located outside of the village of Kato Assites and the renowned Monastery of St. George Gorgolaini at an elevation of 450 metres in the Malevizi area in the eastern foothills of Psiloritis, southwest of the city of Heraklion. In the region, vineyard cultivation and the production of wines and spirits have a long history.
The family’s aim is to create premium wines that pair with the unique microclimate of the area. The primary goal of the Diamantakis family is to profit from local wine varieties like Vidiano and Mandilaria. They have a lot of confidence in the area’s varietals’ potential to create top-notch wines.
Two grape varieties make up this blend: the international and renowned Syrah adds richness and solidity to the wine, while the Cretan Mandilaria provides power, powerful tannins, and acidity. The initial objective was to produce a wine with a big flavour. The second goal was to provide consumers the chance to experience Cretan scents that have been preserved for millennia and are still pure and true.
Diamantopetra is full of ripe red fruit aromas, with cherry, plum, and blackberry at the front row, followed by crushed black pepper and violets. Pronounced tannins, great acidity, and a long pleasant aftertaste with a sensation of sweet spice round up this delicious wine.
