Monte da Serra Blanco is a bright, fruit-forward Portuguese white that captures the easy-going appeal of the Tejo region. A blend of Fernão Pires, Arinto and Verdelho brings together ripe orchard fruit, fragrant flowers and refreshing citrus in a soft, approachable style. Pear, lemon and green apple are joined by hints of pineapple, mango and rose, giving the wine plenty of aromatic personality without making it feel overly sweet or heavy. The palate is smooth and gently rounded, while Arinto’s naturally lively acidity keeps the finish clean and refreshing. Unoaked and uncomplicated, it is an excellent choice for relaxed drinking, seafood, salads and lightly spiced dishes—particularly for anyone keen to explore Portugal’s native white grapes.

Monte da Serra Falua Blanco, Producer

Falua was founded in 1994 with the ambition of becoming a leading producer in Portugal’s Tejo region. Based in Almeirim, the winery combines modern technology with a strong focus on native Portuguese grape varieties and the contrasting terroirs found around the River Tejo. In 2017, Falua was acquired by VITAS Portugal, part of the international Roullier Group, bringing additional investment and opening new export markets. Although Tejo remains central to its identity, Falua has since expanded into other Portuguese regions, including Vinho Verde and the Douro. Its portfolio ranges from more ambitious, site-specific wines to approachable regional blends such as Monte da Serra, designed to offer clear fruit, freshness and excellent everyday drinkability.

Monte da Serra Falua Blanco, Terroir & Winemaking

The Tejo region is shaped by the river that runs through it, creating three broad vineyard zones with contrasting soils and growing conditions. Falua works mainly in the warmer Charneca area, known for poorer sandy soils and deposits of ancient river pebbles, while additional vineyards lie on the more fertile alluvial plains of Campo and Lezíria. These varied conditions allow aromatic varieties to ripen fully while retaining the freshness needed for balanced white wines.

On arrival at the winery, the grapes are destemmed, gently crushed and pressed. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless-steel tanks, preserving the fruit and floral character of the blend. No oak is used, allowing Fernão Pires, Arinto and Verdelho to remain clear and expressive.

Monte da Serra Falua Blanco, Tasting Notes

Clear, pale lemon in colour with subtle green reflections. The nose is fresh and aromatic, opening with pear, green apple, lemon and ripe peach. More generous notes of pineapple and mango are joined by delicate rose petals and white flowers.

The palate is light to medium-bodied, smooth and fruit-led, with ripe orchard and tropical fruit balanced by lively citrus acidity. A gentle softness through the middle makes it approachable, while the finish remains fresh and persistent, leaving notes of lemon zest, pear and fragrant flowers.

Food pairing suggestion: Portuguese-Style Garlic Prawns with Lemon and Crispy Potatoes.
