Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore, Producer
Antinori’s Guado al Tasso estate debuted with the 1990 vintage and is located in the prestigious Bolgheri DOC, on Tuscany’s coastal Maremma. The estate covers 1,000 hectares of gently rolling hills that stretch from the historic village of Bolgheri to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Of this, 300 hectares are under vine, planted mainly to international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Petit Verdot, as well as some Vermentino. The remaining land is used for growing wheat, sunflowers, and olives, showcasing the estate’s commitment to both viticulture and traditional Tuscan agriculture. With its unique microclimate, sea breezes, and alluvial soils, Guado al Tasso has become a benchmark for Bolgheri’s elegant yet powerful wines.
Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore, Winemaking
The blend typically comprises Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, with occasional additions of Petit Verdot, varying by vintage. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel vats, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques. After blending, the wine is aged in new French oak barriques for approximately 18 months and further refined in the bottle before release.
Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore, Tasting Notes
The 2021 vintage showcases a deep ruby red color. The nose reveals aromas of black currant, blackberry, pomegranate, violet, and wild herbs. On the palate, it offers silky tannins enveloping flavours of black cherry, liquorice, spice, mocha, and new leather, with bright, saline undertones extending the finish.
Its structure and depth also make it suitable for cellaring, with the potential to age gracefully for 10–15 years.
