Kumeu River, owned by the Brajkovich family, is recognised internationally. The estates are producing world-class wines, and the Village Chardonnay is the one you should always have in your fridge.
The winery has been gaining its reputation since the marriage of 2 families with Croatian roots in the late 1950’s, when it was known as San Marino Vineyards. But it wasn’t until 1986 when their children renamed the winery into Kumeu River wines and began producing Burgundy-style Chardonnays, the Estates became world-famous, winning international awards and gaining recognition.
The 30 hectares of Kumeu River vineyards sit on soils with incredible water retention qualities, that are able to store water even during the summer months. This means that the vines do not require irrigation, helping with the amazing quality of the grapes.
Food pairing suggestion: perfect as an aperitif or enjoy with crab cakes with white sauce.
