Bodegas Martín Códax was established in 1985 and named after a renowned Galician troubadour. His medieval poems, which are the oldest preserved in the Galician-Portuguese language with their original music, celebrate love and the coastal sea.
Since its founding, Bodegas Martín Códax has grown and evolved, consistently supporting its people, land, and culture. Today, this culture is shared in over 50 countries worldwide.
What began as the dream and hard work of a group of winegrowers has become a reality, allowing Bodegas Martín Códax to emerge as a symbol of Galician wines both within and beyond our borders.
Cuatro Pasos Black, a 100% Mencía wine, is crafted from carefully selected grapes sourced from low-yield, well-balanced vines, most of which are over 80 years old, located on the hillside vineyards of the Bierzo region. After vinification, the wine is aged for 10 months in 225L medium-toast French and American oak barrels.
Medium-high intensity with a dominant bouquet of black fruits like blackberry, prune, and cassis. The fruit is harmoniously blended with notes of toasted raisins, spices, and smokiness, set against a mineral backdrop. The wine is powerful, with smooth, well-integrated tannins, and a balsamic note on the finish.
Food pairing suggestion: steak au poivre.
Did you know? Bear tracks found in the Bierzo vineyards inspired the name of this wine and led to a strong commitment to this endangered animal. Since then, Cuatro Pasos and the bears have been walking in the same direction: towards their protection. +Bears – CO2.
