The project’s owner and winemaker, Matias Riccitelli, was born in Cafayete, Salta. He describes himself as a wanderer and a never-ending dreamer. In the past ten years, Matias has advanced to become the head winemaker of one of Argentina’s most renowned boutique wineries. After numerous harvests all over the world, he has made the decision to put all of his knowledge to use and devote himself to learning about the excellent terroirs of Mendoza and his father’s teachings: Jorge Riccitelli, who was the the first person from Latin America to be named the “Winemakers of the Year 2012” by the prestigious American magazine “Wine Enthusiast.”
Matias made the decision to launch his very own wine label, “Riccitelli Wines,” in 2009, utilising grapes from the most prominent and historic areas Argentina.
Matias Riccitelli Bastardo is an elegant red made from 100% Trousseau grapes that are grown at Allen and Ing Heuergo’s vineyards in Rio Negro, Patagonia, located roughly halfway between the Andes Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. The grapes come from very low yield old vines: this factor contributes to the wine’s aromatic complexity, great structure and long finish. It has a great aromatic complexity with mineral notes and wild red berries alongside spicy and floral hues.
Food pairing suggestion: Ham hock and pistachio terrine.
Did you know? Bastardo is synonymous to Trousseau, originated in Jura, France, and now performing extremely well in Patagonia, where at 39 degree latitude nights are much cooler.
