Peter Lehmann 8 Songs Shiraz: Barossa in Full Voice
Peter Lehmann Eight Songs Shiraz is a rich, polished expression of Barossa Shiraz, bringing together generous dark fruit, beautifully integrated French oak and a wonderfully smooth texture. Part of the producer’s prestigious Master’s Collection, this is a serious wine with plenty of character, but it remains elegant and immensely enjoyable to drink.
The Master’s Collection was inspired by significant people and moments from Peter Lehmann’s life. Peter found inspiration in many places and had a particular love of the arts. Eight Songs Shiraz takes its name from one of his favourite musical works, Eight Songs for a Mad King.
Peter Lehmann founded his winery in 1979, famously standing by the Barossa grape growers whose livelihoods were threatened during a period of serious oversupply. Those close relationships gave the winery access to outstanding fruit from vineyards across the region and helped establish Peter Lehmann as one of the defining names in Barossa wine.
The grapes are harvested in the morning and fermented on their skins for up to two weeks. Individual components are then pressed and transferred to barrel for malolactic fermentation. The final batches are chosen during the winery’s annual classification tasting before being blended and matured for a further 18 months in French oak hogsheads, including 40% new and 60% older oak.
Deep crimson with purple hues, this Shiraz is rich and fragrant, with abundant satsuma plum, juicy blueberry and dusty cedar aromas. The palate is all about texture, delivering ripe plum, dark chocolate and finely judged oak alongside a pure, savoury fruit character. Full-bodied and beautifully composed, it finishes long, smooth and satisfyingly savoury.
Peter Lehmann 8 Songs Shiraz Food Pairing Suggestion:
A wine this rich deserves equally generous food. Pair it with a perfectly cooked ribeye or Scotch fillet, slow-roasted lamb shoulder, smoky beef short ribs or roast duck with crisp potatoes. Its combination of ripe fruit, dark chocolate and savoury spice also makes it a brilliant choice for barbecued meats.
