Salt River is Sauvignon Blanc with a distinctly South African New Wave personality. Rather than pushing the grape towards overtly tropical fruit or intense grassy aromatics, Duncan Savage builds the wine around texture, minerality and coastal freshness. Orange blossom and citrus lead into salted lime, subtle stone fruit and a wonderfully savoury sea-spray character. Old-vine fruit gives the wine concentration, while fermentation in stainless steel, concrete and older barrels creates considerably more texture than you might expect from Sauvignon Blanc. The result is bright and refreshing, but also layered and quietly complex – a brilliant choice for anyone who enjoys mineral Sauvignon styles such as Sancerre but wants something with a little more generosity and individuality. The supplied 2026 offer describes it simply and rather accurately as a wine that “consistently overdelivers”.

Did you know?
Before launching Savage Wines, Duncan spent 14 years making wine at Cape Point Vineyards, gaining a particular reputation for Sauvignon Blanc grown in genuinely maritime locations. That experience helps explain why salinity and freshness remain such distinctive characteristics of Salt River today.
