Talò Verdeca: A Fresh Puglian White from San Marzano
Talò Verdeca is fresh and vibrant, with citrus, white flowers and a lovely mineral edge. It is a brilliant way to discover one of southern Italy’s lesser-known native grapes.
San Marzano is in Puglia, in the heel of Italy, where local farming families tend every vineyard with great care. The Talò range is named in their honour.
Verdeca is a native green-skinned grape that has been grown in Puglia for at least four centuries. It naturally has high acidity, so San Marzano age the wine for three months in French oak with regular lees stirring, which softens it and adds a touch of vanilla and texture.
Expect white flowers, citrus and green apple, with a hint of vanilla. The palate is fresh and mineral, with crisp acidity and a pleasant, clean finish.
Talò Verdeca Food Pairing Suggestion:
Lovely with seafood, shellfish and fish dishes in light sauces. Serve at 10–12°C.
