Wynns Coonawarra Chardonnay: Elegant Cool-Climate Australian White
Wynns Coonawarra Estate Chardonnay is elegant and refined, with citrus, melon and subtle oak, and a creamy texture balanced by fresh acidity. It is an often-overlooked gem from an estate better known for its reds.
Wynns is one of Coonawarra’s longest-established producers. Scotsman John Riddoch planted the first vines around 1890 and built a winery in 1891, and Samuel Wynn & Co bought the property in 1951. The estate is famous for its “terra rossa” red soils, which give intensely flavoured grapes with balanced acidity.
The Chardonnay was first made in 1981. Coonawarra’s cool climate and long ripening season give the wine intensity of flavour while keeping it fresh.
Expect pear, nectarine and melon with citrus. The palate is creamy and textured, with hints of cashew, clean, cool-climate acidity and a flinty finish with light spice and preserved lemon.
Wynns Chardonnay Food Pairing Suggestion:
Try it with stuffed chicken breast, prawn bisque, pasta with basil pesto or a cheese fondue.
