Casa Ferreirinha Papa Figos: Wine With Real Character
Casa Ferreirinha Papa Figos Douro Tinto is a generous, fruit-filled Portuguese red from the Douro Valley, one of Portugal’s most admired wine regions. We are especially excited about Portuguese wines at the moment, as they so often deliver brilliant quality, bags of character and a real sense of place.
Casa Ferreirinha is one of the great names of the Douro, with a long history and a strong reputation for producing wines that show the richness and personality of the region. Papa Figos is a great example of that style. It is made from traditional Portuguese grape varieties, including Touriga Franca and Tempranillo, giving it both ripe fruit and lovely structure.
What makes Papa Figos wine stand out is how much flavour it offers while still feeling smooth and approachable. It has the depth you would hope for from a Douro red, but without being heavy or difficult. This is soft, fruity and polished, yet still full of dark, savoury character.
On the nose, expect ripe blackberries, plums and dark cherries, with a little floral lift and gentle spice. The palate is full-bodied and rounded, with layers of dark fruit, cocoa, vanilla and a subtle smoky edge. The tannins are nicely integrated, giving the wine a smooth texture, while the balanced acidity keeps everything fresh. The finish is long, warming and very satisfying.
Papa Figos Wine Pairing Suggestion:
This is a lovely match for slow-roasted lamb shoulder with garlic, rosemary and olive oil. The wine’s dark fruit and soft tannins work beautifully with the richness of the meat, while its freshness helps cut through all those lovely roasted, savoury flavours. It would also be excellent with beef stew, grilled sausages, mushroom dishes or a proper Portuguese-style pork dish.

Alice –
Love Papa Figos wine – cheap and super cheerful! Tastes so good and the price is criminally low for this. Even my extremely wine-snobby husband happily drinks this wine on some occasions!
