Mandrarossa is the product of over 20 years of research, representing a new and innovative side of Sicily. It embodies the island’s unexpected and experimental spirit. The winemakers believe that innovation goes beyond just following trends. It’s not about what’s new, but rather about reinterpreting tradition. It’s the ability to preserve and convey ancient treasures through new methods. Innovation involves uncovering new properties and aspects of foundational elements, imbuing them with renewed value over time.
In Menfi, the home of Mandrarossa, the performance of various grape varieties was monitored across five experimental fields. This led to extensive micro-vinification efforts and the gradual introduction of new, distinctive wines into the product line, some of which are unique in the Sicilian landscape.
Nero d’ Avola is the most important grape variety in Sicily. The “Black Grape of Avola” seems to have been chosen by growers in the area around Avola, a small town in southeastern Sicily, several centuries ago. Originally limited to the southern tip of the island, it has expanded throughout Sicily.
This Nero d’Avola offers aromas of black cherry, plum, and red mulberries. On the palate, it is soft, with distinct flavours of plum and red mulberries.
Food pairing suggestion: Peppers ammuddicati.
