Vinteloper was founded by David Bowley in 2008 and has now firmly established itself as one of the prominent figures in contemporary Australian winemaking. However, this achievement followed a period of overcoming challenges, notably when their winery in Cudlee Creek was severely affected by Bushfires in 2019. While Pinot Noir remains their specialty, this particular wine demonstrates their boundless expertise.
The velvety texture immediately unveils the reason behind Touriga’s standing as Portugal’s top red grape. It’s akin to savouring a gentle salted caramel while basking in the soothing embrace of summer sunrays. The wine leads with luscious plum notes, accompanied by the characteristic fragrances of lavender, violet, clove, and five-spice that define Touriga Nacional. On the palate, a fusion of black and red fruits takes center stage, enveloped by the distinctively smooth tannins that dominate the experience. Despite its robust depth and flavour reminiscent of a much larger wine, it effortlessly glides down, offering an astonishingly effortless enjoyment.
The wine undergoes fermentation using native yeast and is left in contact with the skins for a duration of 10 days. It matures exclusively in 100% French oak for a period of 18 months.
Food pairing suggestion: Sunday roast.
