Zero G Zweigelt: Austria’s juicy, lightly chilled red

Zero G Zweigelt is a bright, easy-drinking Austrian red from the young and creative producer Arnold Holzer. The name stands for “Zero Gravity”, which feels rather fitting for a wine this fresh, light on its feet and joyfully drinkable.

Made from 100% Zweigelt, one of Austria’s best-loved native red grapes, this is the kind of red that doesn’t need overthinking. Zweigelt is known for juicy cherry fruit, gentle spice and soft texture, and this bottle shows exactly why it has become such a favourite for relaxed, food-friendly drinking.

Arnold Holzer took over his family’s Wagram estate in his early twenties and now represents the fifth generation of the Holzer family working these vineyards. His wines have a lovely mix of Austrian tradition and youthful energy, helped by the region’s fruit-friendly löss soils and his organic approach in the vineyard. The result is wine with proper character, but without any fuss.

What makes Zero G Zweigelt so appealing is its balance of ripe fruit and freshness. It has plenty of cherry and red berry character, a little flicker of black pepper, and soft tannins that keep everything smooth and approachable. It is lighter in body than many classic reds, but still full of flavour, with a clean, juicy finish that makes you want another sip.

Serve it lightly chilled, especially on warmer days, and it becomes a brilliant summer red. Think cherry fruit, a touch of spice, gentle freshness and no heaviness at all.

Zero G Zweigelt Food Pairing Suggestion:

This is lovely with tomato-based dishes, grilled sausages, charcuterie, roast chicken or simple vegetable dishes with herbs. It is also surprisingly good with mussels cooked in tomato sauce, as the wine’s juicy fruit and soft spice work beautifully with the sweet shellfish and rich, savoury sauce.
