Orin Swift Abstract is a bold, expressive Californian red with a label almost as layered as the wine inside. It is made to capture the spirit of the Golden State, pulling fruit from a wide range of vineyards and appellations to create a rich, generous and reliably distinctive style each year.
Orin Swift is known for wines with real visual impact, but there is plenty of substance behind the striking packaging. The team works with carefully selected vineyard parcels across California, blending different sites and components to build depth, balance and consistency. Abstract is one of the best examples of that approach, bringing together a large number of individual elements into one plush, powerful and characterful wine.
What makes Abstract so interesting is the sheer scale of the blending process. The wine starts with more than 200 potential components, which are tasted and narrowed down over several months. Only the best parts make the final blend, giving the wine its broad, layered personality and that unmistakably Californian richness.
In the glass, Abstract is deep, dark and generous. Aromas of blueberries and blackberries lead into notes of dark chocolate, seasoned leather and a savoury, smoky edge. The palate is polished and plush, with ripe plum, boysenberry and blackcurrant, wrapped in grippy, chewy tannins. It is full-bodied, dry and intense, with a long finish carrying dark fruit, gentle spice and a touch of sarsaparilla.

This is a brilliant match for braised beef, especially something slow-cooked with red wine, herbs and plenty of savoury depth. It also works beautifully with smoky barbecued meats, short rib, rich mushroom dishes, or a proper steak with charred edges and a glossy sauce.

The best wine from Orin Swift vineyard in my opinion. Consistent every time, never fails to impress. Super smooth and well balanced. Cherry and vanilla on the nose, blackberry, plum and oak on the taste. Good idea to let it breath before drinking as it brings out the sweetness. Enjoy!

Slowly working my way through all the orin swift wines, yet to be disappointed! Firstly, and most importantly, stunning red with a nose of blackberries, oak, vanilla, cloves, tobacco and cinnamon. More blackberries and oak on the palate with hints of plums and cherries. Very full bodied with complex flavours that keep coming.
Secondly, the label on this bottle is awesome.
